“This needs to be a discussion about restoration—not just a discussion of restoration of jobs but restoration of programs and services in our schools,” Dr. Deasy added. “We need safe, stable schools where students receive a high quality education and basic support such as nutrition.”
LAUSD, like school districts statewide, must notify certificated employees by March 15 of every year if they are in jeopardy of losing their positions.
“We cannot use hope as a strategy in our budget,” Dr. Deasy said. “We must again work together to protect, preserve and restore critical programs and services to our students.”
Board members Marguerite Poindexter Lamotte and Steven Zimmer voted against theproposed plan to balance the budget.
