Ruth Perez was superintendent at the 20,000 student Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District for five years prior to joining LAUSD as its deputy superintendent of instruction.
Before working at Norwalk-La Mirada, Perez was chief academic officer in the 145,000-student Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District in North Carolina and served as an area superintendent in the 192,000 Orange County Public School District in Florida.
The Paramount Unified school board is scheduled to vote on Perez’s selection at its Dec. 9 meeting, and if approved, Perez would start Jan. 4.
David Verdugo and Delores Stephens have served as the district’s interim superintendents since March, when the board terminated the contact of David Mendez.
