GRADUATING SENIORS: WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE? GET YOUR APPLICATION IN BY FEBRUARY 1ST!

from Fox News Channel 58 - Bakersfield

Jan 16, 2008 Application denied. That's what about 10,000 prospective students applying to the Cal-State University system will hear if their applications are not in by February 1st.

The already under funded system moved up their application deadline to cope with the Governor's recent budget cuts.

Procrastinators beware. You have about two weeks left to get your application in to any of California's 23 state universities.

The State University Chancellor moved up the freshman application deadline in anticipation of almost $400 million in proposed budget cuts from the Governor.

CSUB just got word of the new deadline this week. Traditionally, CSUB has not had a closing date so they're trying to get the new date out to as many prospective students as possible.

The CSU system says they will not have enough money to provide student services for about 10,000 students across the state.

That means, high school counselors like Katie Price have a lot of work to do.

Since CSUB estimates about 75% of freshman come from Kern County.

Price says she's fearful some students may be left out.

Some Bakersfield High Students were not aware of the February 1st deadline.

Remember: You have about two weeks to get your application in.

As long as an application for admission has been submitted on www.csumentor.edu by Feb. 1st, students will have an opportunity to be granted admission at a CSU campus.
