Across the country: At least three groups are planning a rally at the Los Angeles Unified school board meeting today. They're protesting more than 600 layoff notices issued this spring in response to a possible budget shortfall. And they're demanding ethnic studies as a graduation requirement. LA School Report has more: http://bit.ly/1KRGETz.
Speaking of LAUSD: Fishburn Elementary School parents have launched a parent trigger campaign with the goal of removing the principal. The parents argue that toxic leadership has driven student achievement into the ground. And many of the school's teachers are standing with the parents after years of petitioning to remove the principal. Parents and teachers say they've been ignored by LAUSD officials, they've faced retaliation for their efforts or questioning her decisions and they're concerned that Fishburn's administration isn't utilizing all of the resources allocated to the school. Read the teachers' letter of support for the parent trigger campaign here: http://politico.pro/1JFOfG1. Earlier this month, Morning Education reported that parents are using the law as leverage for improvement, rather than an outright takeover: http://politico.pro/1S0jJJX
