8/26/14, 5:25 PM PDT :: The Rev. Jesse Jackson swore in Los Angeles Unified’s newest school board member in a ceremony at Tuesday’s meeting.
George McKenna, a veteran educator who has held high-ranking positions in Los Angeles Unified’s administration, won an election to serve out the remaining 10 months of a term left by Marguerite Poindexter Lamotte’s death in December.
“I take this oath more seriously than any oath I’ve taken, and I will do everything in my power to be worthy of your trust,” McKenna said.
Briefly addressing the crowd, Jackson spoke of a need for fairness and equality in education.
