California is facing an education crisis. Over the past three years, public school budgets have been cut by more than $20 billion and laid off more than 40,000 educators. California has the largest class sizes of the nation and ranks 47th out of 50 states in per pupil education spending. "Our Children, Our Future" is an income tax initiative on the November 6, 2012 ballot that intends to raise over $10 billion in dedicated education funding.
Molly Munger is a co-founder and director of the Advancement Project, a national organization founded in 1998 to create and promote new strategies for achieving inclusion and equity. Munger has also been involved in efforts to expand and improve early childhood education for several years, including California's Preschool Challenge, her report on statewide preschool space shortfalls which spurred the creation of the Speaker's Task Force on School Facilities. Along with her Advancement Project co-founders, Connie Rice and Steve English, Munger launched a coalition lawsuit that won approximately $1 billion for new school construction in Los Angeles.
