Tough times and tough questions face the Los Angeles Unified School District: slashed budgets have caused teacher and staff layoffs, increased class sizes, and cancellation of arts and career training courses; test scores are low and drop-out rates high; conflict over evaluations threatens the relationship between teachers and the district; and it’s a constant challenge to reach parents who want to be involved but struggle with busy schedules or language barriers. With nearly 700,000 K-12 students in the second largest school district in the nation, educators constantly examine what they do and how to do it better, but KPCC’s Patt Morrison would like to hear your ideas and concerns. On Wednesday, August 31st, at 7:00 p.m. in the Crawford Family Forum, she welcomes LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy, LAUSD Board President Monica Garcia, United Teachers Los Angeles President Warren Fletcher, parents, teachers and students to an open conversation about our schools -- what works and what should be changed.
The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required.
Special appearance by The All City Jazz Combo, part of the LAUSD Beyond the Bell program.
