SACRAMENTO, California (October 8, 2010) - Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the 2011-11 State Budget today. Jed Wallace, President and CEO of the California Charter Schools Association, issued the following statement in response:
"In this tough economy, and challenging budgetary times, we commend and applaud the Governor and the Legislature for putting kids first, and protecting critical funding for charter schools across the state."
"High-quality education is a top priority for the Association, and as the demand for more charter schools continues to grow, so does the need for funding and facilities. The funds for both SB 740 and categorical funding will help charter schools overcome some of the economic challenges they face."
"As public schools, charter schools are providing important new choices to parents and students seeking improved learning opportunities. We thank the Governor and Legislature for approving a budget that recognizes that public charter school students should be provided the same level of resources that are provided to all of California's public school students.
