Please join the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, in partnership with co-sponsors the Santa Monica-Malibu Council of PTAs and the political action committee, Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS) on November 17th (Malibu) & November 18th (Santa Monica) for the Fourth Annual "State of Our Schools: How Are We Doing?" report to the community This report will include:

  • How Santa Monica-Malibu schools rate,
  • An analysis of student achievement,
  • The financial issues facing SMMUSD this year, and

●●smf's 2¢: Have you ever wondered how they do it in other Districts?  In Santa Monica Malibu USD they have a couple of joint meetings with the Superintendent & School Board leadership, The PTA  and the Outside Fundraising/Advocacy/Political Action Committee out in the community and invite everyone in.

They engage the community, It’s not a confrontation, it’s not a photo op, it’s not an in-your-face political brouhaha at the school district or teacher’s union HQ.

If we are all so hell-bent on replicating best practices and lessons learned like they teach in business school (and we should be) let’s lake a look at at our neighbor to the west.  If you think what they do in SMMUSD is none of our business you are wrong;  I will probably be going to the meeting on Wednesday the 18th.
