smf: So… out of 4,313 sent RIF notices; but only 1,207 actually lost their jobs.
That’s not that bad!
Unless you are one of the 1,207. Or if one of them is your parent or spouse.
Or if one of those 1,207 was going to be your teacher next year in a crowded classroom – but now you’ve got another teacher in an overcrowded classroom.
Remind me again about class size doesn’t really matter. Tell it to the taxpayers who voted for more classrooms and are now paying for overcrowded classrooms – and will be for the next thirty years. With the ‘surplus’ given away to charter schools.
Remind me about the Board of Ed and the Community College Trustees who changed their mind about what I voted for.
Or maybe - just maybe - one of those 1,207 was the social worker on your case. The psychologist or nurse or counselor at your school. Or the art or music teacher you’ll never get. The teacher who was going to make a difference in your life – only now she’s a statistic at the employment office.
And the elementary librarians?…the so called-library aides? They aren’t even on the list - that’s how little they count!
