You probably saw the article about how the poor Theater Arts Dept @ Chatsworth HS had to cancel the spring play in Sandy Banks Column in the Times on Friday, posted on the 4LAKids blog + email newsletter yesterday
Picking up the threads of 'Quilters'

As the late Paul Harvey was wont to say, here is the rest of the story:
Regarding the theatre teacher at Chatsworth HS who cancelled the musical due to lack of funds — there is $7000 in the school’s state arts grant fund (Senate Bill 1131) sitting unspent, in the school’s control, and matching the amount budgeted for theatre in the school’s arts plan. Look in fund number 4292 for his school. He is on the email list of arts teachers who receive regular updates from the Arts Education Branch regarding funding, policy, professional development and performance opportunities for students.
The money is sitting there, unspent and unencumbered - unfrozen - available to pay for the royalties for the play and the artistic and educational enrichment of students.
