A COOL MAP SHOWS SOME UGLY TRUTHS ABOUT CALIFORNIA EDUCATION

by LA School Report | http://bit.ly/19DiL4l

Posted on January 17, 2014  ::  Any idea how California ranks in high school graduation rate? How about 8th grade math? Or education spending?

A Columbus, Ohio group called Best Education Degrees has put together a handy interactive map that shows how the 50 states and the District of Columbia compare on nine different measures, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Department of Education and, for teen pregnancy rates, the Guttmacher Institute.

And, aren’t we in California the cutting edge?  Uh, think again. Our student-teacher ratio, for example, ranks 51st. That would be last.

Check it out to celebrate or weep, depending on where your allegiances are

The editors at Best Education Degrees decided to take a look at education in the United States. Many analysts and pundits speak of United States education as if it were one unit, but in reality every state and locality decides how much money to allocate towards education and how to allocate it. There are some federal guidelines and some federal spending, of course, but in the end every state is a micro-laboratory for education. Click on the above tabs (High School Grad Rate, etc.) to see different educational metrics and then click on the states below to see where they rank!
