FINAL FEDERAL BUDGET CUTS BUT MAINTAINS NEA, ARTS EDUCATION

25 April - President Obama signed into effect the budget deal reached by the House of Representatives and the Senate that finally brings the FY 2011 appropriations cycle to a close. The National Endowment for the Arts saw a cut of nearly $13 million from their current appropriation of $167.5 million for the remainder of the fiscal year, a 7.5 percent decrease. Other culture-related items in the bill include a restoration of $25.5 million to the Arts in Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education and a 10.7 percent cut to the Institute for Museum and Library Services from last year’s appropriation.  Read more.
