January 2nd, 2014, 6:00am  ::  The California Board of Education will vote this month on proposed guidelines for school districts to receive extra funding next fiscal year for disadvantaged students.

The new funding, known as Local Control Funding Formula, is meant to improve learning for low income and English-learner students, among others.

The template - in which school districts will have to detail how the extra funding will raise student performance and what goals they’ll try to reach - goes before  the board January 15. th meeting. They must also give details on the quality of teachers, student performance and the level of parent involvement.

And district officials can't just lock themselves up in a room to write the plan – they have to solicit input from school employees, parents, and community groups. Districts will have to finish their plans before July 1st to get those millions of dollars in extra funding.
