DEPUTY MAYOR JOAN SULLIVAN NAMED CEO OF PARTNERSHIP FOR LA SHOOLS (sic)

/05/2013 05:59:11 PM PDT  ::  Joan Sullivan, the education deputy to outgoing Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, has been named CEO of the 22-campus Partnership for Los Angles Schools, {aka: “The Mayor’s Partnership”) officials said Wednesday.

Sullivan will succeed Marshall Tuck, who is resigning as head of the Partnership, a joint initiative created in 2007 between the city and Los Angeles Unified School District. She has chaired the Partnership's board of directors for the last three years.

The nonprofit operates seven campuses in Watts, three in South Los Angeles and a dozen on the Eastside, with a total enrollment of nearly 16,000 students.

Sullivan graduated from Yale College with a bachelor's degree in American studies and a master's in school leadershpi. She is the founding principal of a high-performing public secondary school in a high-poverty area of the South Bronx.

"Joan is one of the most talented leaders in education today," said Melanie Lundquist, a Partnership co-founder and vice chair of its board.

Sullivan's will assume her new position on July 10. Tuck will remain on staff through the summer to ease the transition.
