FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE PASSENGERS FROM BROKEN FERRIS WHEEL AT HOLLYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL CARINVAL

June 10, 2010 |  9:15 pm -- Los Angeles firefighters were rescuing at least 10 people Thursday night from a broken Ferris wheel at a carnival at Hollywood High School, officials said.

Firefighters were using a 100-foot aerial ladder as a crane to lower the passengers onto a platform closer to the ground, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said the incident was reported at 7:42 p.m. The rescue was still underway about 9 p.m.

It was unclear what caused the Ferris wheel to stop. No injuries were reported.
