2nd L.A. SCHOOL BOARD HOPEFUL WON’T BE ON BALLOT

from the daily Breeze

12/13/2008 -  A second Los Angeles school board hopeful was told this week that he had not gathered enough voter signatures to qualify for the March ballot.

City election officials said Bill Ring, a parent activist, was 52 signatures short of the 500 he needed to run to replace Marlene Canter representing the Westside-to-Tarzana board district.

Ring is considering appealing the finding, which came on Wednesday evening - two days after another potential candidate in the same race, Ben Austin, was knocked out of the contest for the same reason.

Austin on Friday announced he would not appeal the Election Division's findings and was withdrawing from the race.

Two candidates, both LAUSD teachers, have qualified for the March 3 election: Mike Stryer and Steve Zimmer.
